Job objectives and responsibilities overview

·         This is a key role within the Site Protection Team with the core objective of ensuring that the client's premises and people are protected to a high standard

  • The Team Leader (TL) will lead the Site Protection Team who must adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and Assignment Instructions, whilst maintaining a high-quality service at all times

·         The TL will develop collaborative working relationships with Mitie and the client's Local Security Controllers

·         While supervising the Site Protection Team, the TL will ensure that all contracted and temporary hours are fulfilled

·         The TL must engage in effective communication with the client and other site stakeholders, and assist Mitie Operations Manager, National Security Coordinator, and other stakeholders as required

·         With responsibility for personal and professional development, the TL will engage with the appropriate Mitie stakeholders to arrange team training and personal development planning

·         This team leadership position will be required to manage security incidents that may involve conflict de-escalation and physical intervention skills – experience and qualification in conflict de-escalation and physical intervention are preferred and additional training will be given.

·         Where required, the TL will conduct and contribute to investigations, writing respective reports for the client and Mitie operational management

·         The role must promote the delivery of service excellence, sustainability, social values, and efficiency initiatives at the site level. This includes driving continuous improvement and contributing to innovation initiatives

·         Ultimately, the protection team will uphold the security and positive reputation of the company and client through constructive representation and dedication to the job

 

 

Main duties

To proactively demonstrate and work to the Company's values, act as an ambassador for Mitie Security and the client at all times.

 

The site Team Leader is required to proactively work to the company's values, acting as an ambassador for Mitie Security and the client at all times. This job role will suit experienced security professionals – preferably with experience leading teams – professionals who seek to work for a leading, well-respected client company. Suitable candidates include those who have the following skills, experience, and attributes:

 

Primary attributes  

·         Ability to be screened to SC Level – or have a current SC clearance

·         Either sole or dual British nationality to comply with the client's IPSA accreditation (compulsory)

·         Dual nationality will be considered on a case-by-case basis

·         Physically fit – A competency-based assessment is a compulsory requirement for this role and must be completed by all officers

·         SIA Security Guard OR Door Supervisor OR Close Protection license holder (CP preferred but not mandatory)

·         Remains calm under pressure

·         Ability to deal with and control an emergency situation

·         Is a team player and works with colleagues to ensure high levels of protection are delivered at all times

·         Is trustworthy & reliable

·         Maintains good time keeping

·         Strong interpersonal skills

·         A good written and verbal communicator

·         Supervisory/leadership skills, ability to influence, motivate and liaise with others

·         Is IT literate

·         Demonstrate understating of the Health and Safety at Work Act, relevant Criminal, Civil Law and Police and Criminal Evidence Act

·         Must be disciplined, have a professional attitude, be self-motivated, and committed to the job

·         An efficient worker, seeks to use time at work wisely and appropriately - always seeking to protect the clients informational integrity

·         High standards of appearance to positively represent the company and client at all times

·         Ability to work within established procedures and to contribute positively to any improvements

·         Has the ability to listen and demonstrate creative thinking skills

 

Preferred attibutes  

·         Holder of a 3-Day HSE first aid certificate (minimum 1 day, applicant must be able to supply a certificate) (preferred)

·         Has held a previous supervisory position within a similar high profile blue chip client environment. (preferred)

·         Previous experience as a Security Officer working in a high profile blue chip client environment. (preferred)

·         Holder of full UK Driving Licence (preferable)

·         Proficient in written and oral communication skills and IT literate/ competent

·         Knowledge of and ability to use computer systems

·         Microsoft Word – Intermediate

·         Microsoft Excel – Intermediate

·         Hold a full UK Driving Licence (preferable). A need to visit other client sites is required.

 

Additional role requirements:

Customer care

·         Be receptive to the Client's concerns and complaints and take a personal interest in resolving any issues that you become involved in

·         Work to the Standard Operating Prtocedures and Assignment Instructions ensuring that all activity is accurately recorded on the correct documents, in line with quality procedures

·         Ensure that the contract is manned to the agreed level at all times

·         Ensure all contractual commitments are honoured and if there is any failure be the first to escalate in line with site SOPs

·         Ensure the client is fully satisfied with the service provided

·         Ensure performance indicators are met and standards are constantly maintained

·         Implement local opportunities to maxise service efficiency and drive continuous improvement

·         Log complaints in accordance with the quality system and remedy in a timely and effective manner – the Customer Incident Report (CIR) must be investigated and completed

·         Security incidents, breaches, and other incidents, muct be reported/escalated using ServiceNow, informing the client and Mitie security management in line with standard contract SOP's

·         Continuously seek to identify opportunities to add value to the service in support of Mitie's continuous improvement commitments

 

Managerial requirements

·         Leading the Site Protection Team in all matters, reporting to senior security management

·         Support and implement customer corporate policies

·         Manage security and emergency incidents

·         Ensure that the correct security systems and procedures are used appropriately

·         Engage in effective communication with the client, Mitie Operations Manager, and National Security Coordinator, and other stakeholders as required

·         Manage the staff on site to ensure that the operational delivery of the service is maintained to a high standard and to the complete satisfaction of the client

·         Take responsibility for the team's personal and professional development, by engaging with the appropriate Mitie stakeholders to arrange team training and personal development planning

·         Where required, the TL will conduct and contribute to investigations, writing respective reports for the client and Mitie operational management

·         Lead the implementation of customer corporate policies and codes of practice

·         Constantly assess the risks to the client and company stakeholders, taking appropriate mitigation measures

·         Regularly audit administrative, health and safety and quality procedures

·         Provide support to staff who have welfare requirements

·         Support the vetting process to ensure that all site protection officers assigned to you comply with BS7858 and SC clearance requirements

·         Take detailed notes of all disciplinary actions taken against employees, making sure that such matters are first referred Mitie operational management and HR

 

Communication

·         Must have effective communication skills to maintain and develop relationships within the team and client

·         Respond to all customer requests in a timely fashion

·         Communicate any business related requests to relevant personnel

·         Support the clients contract governance structure

·         Develop strong collaborative relationships with the clients Local Security Controllers and Mitie operational management

·         Develop and manage security related projects and initiatives in collaboration with the client and Mitie operational management

·         Provide information regarding on site activity relevant to the teams performance, on-going issues and future development opportunities and continuous improvement

·         Complete and submit the Site Protection Team's weekly activity report 

 

Training and development

·         In conjunction with the Mitie Management team, monitor the performance of SPOs, conduct annual appraisals in line with company policy, and develop personal development plan for all team members

·         Liaise with the Operations Manager and National Security Coordinator to ensure that all contractual training requirements are met and that all certificates are renewed within the correct time frame

·         Make sure that all security officers are aware of the latest training initiatives and are given the opportunity for both personal and professional development

·         Support site training and exercising activities where required

·         Ensure that the SPO team is constantly trained to meet leading industry practices and the specific requirements of the clients contract

 

Quality

·         Maintain accurate and up to date assignment instructions for the site, against which all security officers should be assessed to ensure their understanding and compliance

·         Set and maintain high personal and professional standards as an employee of Mitie and adopt a total quality approach to every aspect of your work, colleagues and client

 

 

 

Health and Safety responsibilities

 

·         Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times

·         Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment

·         Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with the training received

·         Report any issues to your line manager and/or via your divisional incident reporting system

·         Report any training needs to your line manager
