Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Stores Person to join our team at Mitie, working closely with our clients. As a key member of the stores and yard team, you will play an essential role in supporting the smooth running of the stores department. Your responsibilities will include maximizing departmental efficiencies, minimizing equipment downtime, and contributing to the achievement of the departmental business plan. This role combines store management with yard duties, where you will be responsible for controlling inventory, receiving deliveries, and maintaining a safe, organised store and yard area. Your efforts will help ensure seamless operations while aligning with Mitie's values.

Based at RAF Mildenhall, primarily working in a storeroom environment, the successful candidate will be a versatile, customer-focused individual, dedicated to providing first-class service to the Armed Forces. You will be responsible for effectively controlling and maintaining stock levels, managing critical spares, ensuring regular updates on our Maximo system, and minimizing the risk of financial loss to the company.

Main Duties

  • Parts Processing & Stock Control: Responsible for processing all parts requests, issuing and delivering parts, and maintaining stock levels of specialist stores and clothing. Perform regular stocktaking to ensure compliance checks are completed accurately and efficiently.

  • Delivery Management: Ensure deliveries are unloaded safely, items are unpacked, checked against invoices for discrepancies, and stock is replenished as needed. Update records accordingly and expedite orders through the relevant software.

  • Store & Yard Operations: Manage and maintain all stores and yard areas, ensuring they are kept in a safe, hygienic, and workable condition, including the management of site waste. This also involves adhering to health and safety standards and promptly reporting any service or work issues.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Actively maintain a safe working culture by adhering to all Health and Safety procedures, regulations, and relevant laws (including COSHH and GDPR). Ensure that safe working practices are followed at all times, and all activities comply with current regulations.

  • Customer Service Excellence: Develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, delivering excellent customer service by promptly responding to material requests. Support various departments, particularly the Soft & Hard Services, with store needs.

  • Administrative & General Support: Provide support to the Administration team in executing their duties. This includes checking delivery notes and invoices for discrepancies, assisting in logistics, and offering general store and yard-related support as needed.

  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all activities comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH, and POWRA regulations. Assist with routine store transactions and maintain accurate records. Deputise for the Stores Supervisor in their absence.

  • Flexibility & Initiative: Remain flexible, reliable, and proactive in carrying out duties independently or as part of a team. Promote Mitie's professional image when liaising with customers and external agencies.

What we are looking for

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in stock management or inventory systems, with a proven track record in managing and controlling stock.

  • Flexible, reliable, and self-motivated, with a ‘can do' attitude and the ability to adapt to change while developing positive working relationships.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and team-working abilities, with a proactive approach and a willingness to assist others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking responsibility for actions and recording work accurately.
  • A good standard of education, ideally with at least a Grade C in English and Mathematics, and computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
