An exciting opportunity to join Mitie, one of the UK's largest Project Services providers working across a mix of office refurbishments, retail outlets, industrial and manufacturing facilities, defence estates and nuclear sector areas. In the context of this role the Senior Quantity Surveyor is required to lead commercial activities for the Project team within the RVI Newcastle Healthcare PFI Account. Project works are currently related to (the type and volume can fluctuate on a periodic basis in line with varying healthcare needs) Project Works resulting from: Life Cycle replacement / upgrade programmes / Building upgrades / change of use requirements.Within the next 12 months we anticipate project programme valued between £3-5m per annum and this volume can fluctuate based on client demands.The role operates within dynamic Project environments and reports to the Account Senior Projects manager and involves regular:Client interaction / collaboration-Coordination and teamwork / collaboration with the broader Project Team (currently comprising of Project Managers (PM), Projects Coordinator and broader Account Facilities Management team (to determine, for example, details of maintenance obligations and associated costs).Coordination with the Account Commercial team in order to align with broader account practices, policies, reporting dynamics and contractual obligations.
In addition the successful candidate will: Actively contribute to the Account SLT.Lead the adoption of Account commercial policies / practices across the projects team and maintain the required levels of collaboration with associated stakeholders (ie internal and external). Drive commercial leadership for the Account Projects Team.
Main Duties
To maximise the successful running and commercial control of all project works. This is likely to include (but not limited to…) the following duties:Accurate management of projects through budgeting and reporting to enable each to be delivered in accordance with contract conditions in the most cost-effective manner. Undertake detailed tender evaluations to identify / critique exact deliverables verses requirements together with the identification of potential risks – lead the production of associated recommendations. Issue enquiries / tender packages together with relevant drawings, prelim elements and specifications. Select sub-contractors from the approved Sub-contractors list to ensure competence and resource are consistent with the scope/scale of the contract. Manage procurement of sub-contract packages, labour only packages and suppliers utilising where appropriate Sub Contract Documentation or Purchase Orders. Work with PMs to prepare and manage labour, plant & materials project budget costs. Prepare and submit periodic valuations and invoices including all supporting information for claims and variations.
Ability to understand and interpret design drawings. An excellent commercial understanding and how this impacts upon our controls of risk and opportunities.
