Lead critical operational support for UK Defence overseas

Mitie delivers essential infrastructure, engineering, logistics and operational support services across HM Naval Base Gibraltar as part of the Overseas Prime Contract. Our teams play a vital role in supporting visiting vessels, military operations and the wider Defence estate in one of the UK's most strategically important overseas locations.

We're looking for a Waterfront Operations Manager to lead the safe, effective and compliant delivery of waterfront support services across the Gibraltar estate.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced operational leader to manage complex activities supporting visiting vessels and submarines, coordinate specialist service delivery, and work alongside military and civilian stakeholders in a highly regulated operational environment.

The Role

As a Waterfront Operations Manager, you will be responsible for leading day-to-day waterfront operations and ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading the delivery of waterfront operational and support services.
Acting as the primary point of contact for waterfront service coordination.
Supporting the planning and operational delivery of visiting vessel and submarine activity.
Managing operational teams, resources and on-call arrangements.
Ensuring contractual KPIs, compliance requirements and operational standards are achieved.
Working closely with Defence stakeholders and Mitie colleagues to coordinate service delivery.
Supporting the planning and coordination of nuclear-powered warship visits.
Managing Ground Fixed Equipment (GFE) and associated operational logistics activities.
Maintaining compliance with Defence logistics processes, asset controls and audit requirements.
Overseeing asbestos and water hygiene management activities delivered under the contract.
Driving a strong culture of health, safety and environmental compliance.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in experienced operational managers who can lead teams, manage risk and deliver services within complex and regulated environments.

You may come from:

Defence or military operations
Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army or RAF logistics environments
Maritime, waterfront or port operations
Facilities management
Engineering operations
Utilities, transport or other safety critical sectors

You'll ideally have:

Experience leading operational teams and delivering against performance targets.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Experience managing health, safety and operational compliance.
The ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-moving operational environment.
Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving capability.
Experience managing resources, contractors or service providers.

Desirable Experience

It would be advantageous if you have experience of:

Defence or MOD environments.
Waterfront, marine or port operations.
Logistics, stores or inventory management.
Highly regulated operational environments.
CAFM systems.
Asbestos or water hygiene management programmes.
Spanish language capability.
