ROLE: Authorising Engineer (Water)
LOCATION: UK Wide / National Travel Required

At Mitie, our people are our greatest strength, and our promise is to create a place to work where you can thrive and be your best every day.

We're looking for an Authorising Engineer (Water) to join our Technical Services Division, supporting Healthcare, Education, Critical Environments, Corporate Accounts and Local Government portfolios. This is a unique opportunity to drive technical excellence, improve safety performance, reduce operational risk and support the development of a multi-disciplinary team through innovation, collaboration and a risk-based approach to compliance auditing.

Role Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical compliance audits and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) inspections across the portfolio, providing SMART action plans and early identification of technical risks and non-compliance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis investigations into incidents, accidents and system failures, working collaboratively with subject matter experts to prevent recurrence.
  • Assess, endorse and monitor Authorised Persons (APs), ensuring competence, training requirements and appointments are effectively managed.
  • Provide technical advice and support to APs, managers, contractors and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, guidance and engineering best practice.
  • Develop technical bulletins, toolbox talks, procedures and training initiatives, supporting continuous improvement and safe operational practices across the business.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.

  • Relevant engineering qualifications with demonstrable competence and experience within water discipline authorising engineer activities, alongside a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Professional registration, such as Chartered status (or actively working towards professional registration), with detailed knowledge of applicable HTM guidance and standards.
  • Proven experience undertaking audits, inspections, competence assessments and incident investigations, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

What's in it for you?

  • Opportunity to influence and drive change across a national portfolio through innovation, technology and a risk-based approach to compliance.
  • Access to ongoing professional development, cross-discipline learning opportunities and support from a highly experienced Technical Services leadership team.
  • A challenging and rewarding role where you'll play a key part in improving safety, reducing risk and shaping engineering excellence across Mitie.
