Data and Insights Manager – Retail Security

The Data and Insights Manager in retail security is responsible for leveraging data to enhance loss prevention strategies, improve operational efficiency, and support decision-making across the retail security function. This role requires a strong crime-analytical background, ideally gained through working on retail-related incidents such as theft, fraud, organised crime, and stock loss investigations. You will be experienced in interpreting security intelligence and incident data to identify patterns, assess threats, and recommend targeted interventions.

The role involves collecting, analysing, and interpreting data related to security incidents, shrinkage, fraud, and store compliance to provide actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the collection, integrity, and quality of security-related data.
  • Establish data governance processes to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Analyse data from various sources (CCTV, incident logs, EAS systems, POS data, audit reports), with a focus on retail-related crime and loss prevention.
  • Develop dashboards and reports highlighting security performance, trends, incident hotspots, and emerging risk indicators.
  • Identify patterns and root causes of losses or security breaches, including organised retail crime activity.
  • Provide actionable crime-analytical insights to reduce shrinkage, theft, and fraud.
  • Recommend process improvements, investigative strategies, and preventive measures based on evidence.
  • Work with IT and vendors to develop or enhance analytics tools, reporting systems, and incident management platforms.
  • Build strong intelligence-sharing partnerships with law enforcement, other retailers, and security networks.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and operational teams in a clear, impactful manner.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Proven experience in crime analysis, preferably within retail security or law enforcement settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse large volumes of incident and security data to identify crime trends, offender patterns, and emerging risks.
  • Experience in Power BI administration, reporting, and data manipulation via Power BI, Power Query, etc.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills, with sharp attention to detail.
  • Computer literate with a variety of software, including Microsoft Office and bespoke systems.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal teams, clients, and external partners such as law enforcement.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • Experience of working on retail crime investigations or security incident analysis.
  • Knowledge of the retail market, loss prevention techniques, and organised crime methodologies.
  • Experience working with SOC (Security Operations Centre) requirements and processes.
  • Previous achievement of performance targets through the use of security metrics and intelligence.
  • Flexibility in working hours to respond to incidents and operational needs.
