About the Role

We are currently recruiting for a professional, flexible, and reliable Relief Retail Security Officer to support a number of retail locations across Bristol and the surrounding areas.

This role is ideal for an experienced security professional who enjoys variety in their work and can adapt to different store environments. As a Relief Officer, you will provide security cover across multiple sites, ensuring a safe and secure environment for customers, colleagues, and store assets.

The successful candidate will be deployed to sites based on operational requirements, covering planned and unplanned absences including annual leave, sickness, vacancies, training, and other staffing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide a professional and highly visible security presence across multiple retail locations.
• Deter theft, fraud, stock loss, and anti-social behaviour.
• Conduct regular patrols of stores and surrounding areas.
• Respond effectively to incidents, emergencies, and security concerns.
• Complete detailed and accurate incident reports.
• Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining security standards.
• Support store management with loss prevention and security initiatives.
• Monitor suspicious activity and take appropriate action in line with company procedures.
• Ensure compliance with client and company policies at all times.

Essential Requirements

• Valid SIA Door Supervisor or Security Guarding Licence.
• Previous retail security experience is essential.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently and across multiple locations.
• Good knowledge of loss prevention and retail security practices.

Travel Requirements

This is a mobile Relief Officer position, and travel is a fundamental requirement of the role.

Applicants must have access to a reliable vehicle and hold a full UK driving licence, as you will be required to travel to various sites across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Public transport may not always be suitable, particularly for early starts, late finishes, or short-notice shift allocations.

Candidates who are unable to travel between locations at short notice may not be suitable for this position.

Flexibility Requirements

As a Relief Officer, your shifts will be scheduled based on operational needs. The role is designed to provide cover where staffing gaps arise, including:

• Annual leave cover
• Sickness absence cover
• Emergency shift cover
• Training and development cover
• Vacancy cover
• Additional operational support requirements

The successful candidate must be flexible regarding working locations and shift patterns. While work is available on an ongoing basis, shift allocations may vary from week to week depending on business requirements.

There will also be occasions where shifts become available at short notice, and therefore applicants should be prepared to respond flexibly whenever possible.

Technical Skills

Modern retail security requires the effective use of digital systems and reporting platforms. Applicants must be confident using:

• Incident reporting and case management systems.
• Mobile devices and tablets.
• CCTV and security monitoring platforms.
• Electronic reporting and evidence submission systems.
• Microsoft Outlook and workplace communication tools.
• Internal compliance and security management software.
