Job objectives and responsibilities

·       You will be part of a small team to carry out day-to-day maintenance tasks including Pre Planned Maintenance (PPM's) and general maintenance to ensure the underground environments are safe, compliant and presentable

·       Uphold rigorous health & safety standards

·       Communicate & liaise with different stakeholders and contractors

 

Main duties

Operational Delivery

  • Undertake daily PPM's to check various aspects of the underground, equipment and safe access routes
  • Ensure Health & Safety and compliance across all aspects of daily work
  • Carry out small maintenance tasks
  • Ensure efficient use and safe storage of equipment and chemicals
  • Provide excellent customer service to occupants
  • Provide accurate records and reports and maintain all assigned work order documentation
  • Proactively walk the underground, reporting any maintenance or safety issues
  • Participate in testing emergency responses for various situations
  • Support MOD Mine Management Team (MMT) as required to enable compliance with legal requirements (Mine Regulations 2014)

 

Contractor & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with contractors, MOD MMT, facilities, security and end-user stakeholders to minimize disruption, align priorities, and communicate planned works.

Compliance, Quality & Sustainability

  • Meet or exceed contractual KPIs and service levels; ensure standards are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain documentation for inspections, audits, and quality checks

 

Person Specification

Essential skills set & Experience

  • Good knowledge of H&S and understanding of risks and hazards
  • Comfortable working in an underground environment (100 feet below ground)
  • Ability to work as part of a small team
  • Must be physically fit due to the scale of the environment and the ability in an emergency to climb stairs (over 200 steps)
  • Must be adaptable as the skills required are varied and the ability to consider / undertake ‘handyman' / minor mechanical tasks
  • Excellent communication (verbal / written), planning, and stakeholder management skills; confident with digital reporting tools
  • Consideration and interest of heritage and historical artifacts
  • Full UK driving licence;

Desirable

  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
  • Certification in quarry safety “Safe in the Underground Environment” (or equivalent)
  • Experience working within MOD estates or other high-security, high-compliance environments.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake
 

Health and Safety responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Follow H&S guidelines to ensure compliance with applicable Mine Regulations / Health & Safety legislation and MMT (MOD)/Estates policies (e.g., risk assessments, method statements, permits to work, toolbox talks, safe systems of work)
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Participate in robust hazard reporting, near-miss capture, and incident investigation; complete corrective and preventive actions
 

 Information Security

·       Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities;

·       Proactively identify and report security risks to your manager and MMT;

·       Report actual and suspected security incidents;

·       MOD security checks to be completed on recruitment;

·       Ensure compliance with MOD site and specific underground security policies, procedures and arrangements;
