 Job role and responsibilities 

This is an opportunity to join Mitie's Corporate Affairs team at a busy time for the business. We're seeking a PR Executive to help communicate the company's strategy and build a strong corporate reputation by supporting effective external communications.  

You'll work closely with the wider communications team (comprising of Internal Comms, Marketing and Investor Relations). This is a varied and rewarding role. Ideal for someone wanting to develop a career in communications, this role will offer a sound foundation in PR with the opportunity to expand the remit for the right candidate. You'll gain hands on experience communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including different types of media and colleagues throughout the business. 

The External Communications Team sits at the heart of the business, overseeing all PR and Public Affairs activity for Mitie. You'll be promoting the business' proactive campaigns, such as Mitie's industry leading Plan Zero sustainability commitments, as well taking a key role in managing reactive press enquiries on a broad range of issues. No two days are the same!  

Main duties 

Your job will be to protect and promote the positive reputation of the brand through integrated communications campaigns, as well as supporting the implementation of the external communications strategy. 

You'll: 

  • Support the delivery of a full proactive PR service. This includes delivering PR campaigns, managing a pipeline of regular press activity and drafting timely, compelling and accurate content such as press releases, articles, comment pieces and social activity. 
  • Need to be able to juggle this alongside daily press office needs, being able to react quickly and capably to respond to complex enquiries and potential issues at pace, including on an out-of-hours basis on occasion. 
  • Support key events in the corporate calendar, such as annual results, capital markets days and events, including general event management, venue liaison, onsite logistics and collating briefing material.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to find out about new initiatives, unearthing potential stories and generating PR ideas, always ensuring consistent, coherent and on-brand messaging.
  • Be responsible for maintaining Mitie's newsroom, distributing press releases and ensuring content is kept up to date.
  • Collate journalist briefings, look after our journalist database and manage our press cuttings distribution service.
  • Support the press team by managing day-to-day admin including managing suppliers and subscriptions.
  • Be an advocate for the PR team, compiling evaluation reports to play back success internally and increasing awareness of the support the team provides.
  • While the main focus of the role is PR, you'll also support with public affairs activity on an ad hoc basis, as part of the team's integrated approach to external communications.  

About you  

  • You'll have at least two years comms experience 
  • You'll be an enthusiastic, hands-on, go-getter with keen interest in pursuing a career in comms.
  • Passionate about current affairs, you're always keeping up with the latest news.
  • A proactive ‘self-starter' – someone who takes the initiative to volunteer for tasks and always up for learning something new. 
  • You'll be a team player, enjoy new challenges and have the mettle to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • You'll be inquisitive, digging out the stories in our business and keen to learn.
  • With strong interpersonal skills, you'll talk with confidence, in person and on the phone. You'll also enjoy writing with clarity and producing punchy copy.
  • Resilient, with the drive and ability to work under pressure, you'll be highly organised and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Offering a safe pair of hands, your attention to detail will be top notch.
