 Operations Manager

About the Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to support protective security operations in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the successful candidate will provide first line management across operational teams, supporting Shift Managers to deliver safe, effective and compliant security operations.

This key leadership role requires strong operational knowledge, visible leadership, clear communication and a commitment to high standards across nuclear security, safety culture and workforce performance.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide first line management to protect the customer's people, property and assets by ensuring security operations are delivered in line with the site's published Assignment Instructions and any subsequent updates.

The Operations Manager will support operational delivery, maintain compliance, build team capability and ensure nuclear safety and security standards are consistently upheld.

What You'll Be Doing

Operational Leadership

  • Provide effective first line management for Shift Managers.
  • Support the delivery of protective security operations across the Civilian Guard Force.
  • Ensure operational activities are carried out in line with Assignment Instructions and site requirements.
  • Provide clear direction to operational teams and support consistent decision-making.
  • Remain visible in the workplace and engage positively with the workforce.

Standards, Compliance and Assurance

  • Reinforce high standards of conduct, performance and operational delivery.
  • Challenge low standards and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure nuclear safety is considered in operational decision-making.
  • Support compliance with site processes, schedules and security requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with QHSE to support the delivery of briefs and operational learning.

People Management and Development

  • Lead by example and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Mentor others and encourage workforce engagement.
  • Allocate responsibilities effectively across operational teams.
  • Support effective performance management, people management processes and help develop and maintain a capable, high-performing team.
  • Promote collaborative working, inclusion and professionalism across the team.

Operational Knowledge and Continuous Improvement

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Civilian Guard Force processes and Assignment Instructions.
  • Maintain awareness of scheduling, WP+ processes, pay queries and daily reconciliations.
  • Support positive change and contribute to ongoing improvements in operational delivery.
  • Recognise and reward positive actions that support high standards and team performance.

 

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience within protective security, security operations, supervision or operational management.
  • The ability to lead operational teams and support both Shift Managers and Supervisors.
  • A strong understanding of site processes, Assignment Instructions and operational requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with the workforce.
  • The ability to set clear direction, reinforce standards and hold others to account.
  • A positive approach to change and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to create and support a positive safety culture.
  • A good understanding of nuclear safety expectations and security requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain minimum SC security clearance.

 

Qualifications and Training

  • Security Industry Authority SIA Licence
  • Level 3 Award in Health and Safety.
  • Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work.
