Location: Overseas Defence operation in Europe
Working pattern: 6 weeks deployed / 6 weeks UK based rotation
Package: Competitive base salary, free accommodation, overseas allowance, standby allowance, subsistence allowance, return travel to the UK

Mitie is recruiting an experienced Mechanical Maintenance & Plumbing Engineer to maintain essential building services within an overseas Defence operation.

You will deliver planned and reactive maintenance across mechanical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and water systems. Working within a small technical team, you will diagnose faults, complete repairs and help protect compliance and service continuity.

This position offers broad technical responsibility and international experience in an environment where dependable maintenance has a clear operational purpose.

What you'll do

  • Complete planned and reactive mechanical and plumbing maintenance.
  • Maintain relevant mechanical plant, pipework, heating, ventilation, water and sanitary systems.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs within your competence.
  • Support approved water-hygiene checks and documentation where authorised.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records and asset information.
  • Report safety concerns, asset-condition issues and replacement requirements.
  • Participate in the agreed urgent-response arrangement during deployed periods.
  • Support minor works and wider infrastructure activity where competent.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical and building-fabric colleagues.

What you'll bring

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in plumbing, mechanical services, heating, ventilation or building services, or recognised equivalent.
  • Commercial mechanical, plumbing or building-services maintenance experience.
  • Practical experience with relevant plant, pipework, pumps, valves and water systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and repair capability.
  • Understanding of planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Accurate compliance and maintenance record keeping.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions within agreed authority.

Useful additional experience

  • Water-hygiene, Legionella-awareness or L8-related training.
  • Facilities-management or building-services experience.
  • MOD, Defence, secure-government, overseas or deployed-environment experience.
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification.
  • Permit-to-work knowledge.
  • F-Gas Category 1 if confirmed as part of the final role scope.

Working Pattern

This role operates on a rotational basis, typically involving six weeks deployed overseas followed by six weeks in the UK on standby. While deployed, employees participate in a 24/7 operational support environment and may be required to respond to urgent operational requirements in accordance with local procedures and the agreed rota.

Security and deployment requirements

Appointment is subject to the requirements confirmed for this contract. These includes eligibility to obtain and maintain the required level of UK Government security clearance, identity and RTW checks, medical and dental assessment, role specific mobilisation checks, and compliance with local access, conduct, security and information handling requirements.
