Job Overview

The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance,

fault diagnosis, repair and new installation works across a range of mechanical plant, equipment and building services

systems.

The postholder will ensure that all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard, with a strong emphasis

on first-time quality, operational availability and compliance with relevant health, safety and technical requirements.

The role may involve working in remote or operational locations, including field-based facilities and mountain-top radar

sites, and participation in an emergency call-out rota as required.

Main Duties

  • Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of mechanical plant and systems, including:

    · Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems

    · Industrial and hangar doors

    · Mechanical ventilation systems

    · Medium Temperature Hot Water (MTHW) systems

    · Steam systems and associated plant

    · Compressed air systems and compressors

    · Oil-fired heating and associated plant

    · Mechanical lifting equipment and ramps

    · Commercial kitchen equipment, where applicable

  • · Diagnose mechanical faults and undertake repairs in a safe, efficient and technically competent manner.
  •  Install, replace and maintain pumps, valves, pipework and associated mechanical components across a variety of systems.
  •  Undertake new works and minor installation projects from drawings, written specifications, scopes of work and technical instructions, with minimal supervision.
  •  Complete work to the required quality standard, adopting a right-first-time approach and minimising the requirement for re-work.
  •  Work towards, obtain and maintain appointment to the appropriate Skilled Person/Competent Person register where required by the organisation.
  • Plan and organise assigned work effectively to minimise downtime, delays and non-productive time.
  •  Accurately complete maintenance records, job reports, asset information, labour records and other required documentation.
  •  Ensure overtime is appropriately authorised and all associated records are submitted accurately and within required timescales.
  •  Respond to emergency call-outs and operational incidents as required. · Work safely in remote and field-based locations, including mountain-top radar sites, where operational requirements dictate.
  •  Liaise effectively with colleagues, supervisors, customers, contractors and other stakeholders to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise disruption to operations.
  •  Identify defects, emerging maintenance requirements and potential improvements, escalating significant technical or safety concerns as appropriate.
  •  Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe, clean and serviceable condition.
  •  Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the role, as directed by the Line Manager or Management Team.
