Job Overview

  • The role is responsible for providing technical leadership and operational oversight within the engineering team. Acting as the team's technical expert, the position ensures that all work complies with relevant industry standards, internal procedures, and the MITIE Maintenance Quality Management System. The role carries responsibility for reviewing quality checks through regular site visits and audits.

    A key part of the position involves supervising and mentoring engineering staff, monitoring performance, and managing KPI scores and SLAs. This includes conducting annual reviews and appraisals, allocating tasks effectively, and prioritising workloads to ensure efficient service delivery. The role also supports competency management by ensuring all engineers maintain the required skills and certifications to fulfil their duties safely and effectively.

    The position requires strong communication and client‑facing skills, including liaising with clients, providing technical updates, and delivering clear, professional reports. The role also manages essential operational tasks such as ordering materials, overseeing tool and PPE allocation, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.

    Health and Safety is a core responsibility, ensuring the team adheres to the company's policies and safe working practices. This includes organising routine and random Drug & Alcohol testing in line with company requirements.

    In addition, the role supports the Account Manager with a variety of ad hoc project work, which may involve budgeting, resource planning, and the development of work schedules.

    Overall, this position plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and performance while fostering a collaborative, positive, and innovative team environment.

    Main Duties:

    • Client Communication: Work closely with clients, providing regular updates and maintaining strong working relationships.
    • Engineer Support & Productivity: Ensure engineers have the resources, information, and support they need to work efficiently and maintain high productivity levels.
    • KPI Management: Monitor KPIs daily to ensure no targets are missed. Where failures occur, provide full justification and corrective actions.
    • Work Order Oversight: Review open and overdue work orders to ensure timely completion and address any delays.
    • Forward Planning (Power BI): Proactively review Power BI dashboards to identify upcoming risks, prevent KPI failures, and ensure no tasks in WCON are overlooked.
    • Timesheet Compliance (CATS): Check CATS regularly to ensure timesheet submissions are accurate, up to date, and free from outstanding actions.
    • Holiday & Workforce Planning: Manage holiday requests via PeopleHub and ensure adequate engineering cover at all times.
    • Livesafe & Health and Safety: Conduct Livesafe walk‑rounds, recording hazard spots and near misses through the Livesafe app, and log visits on Power BI.
    • Staff Check‑ins: Carry out weekly check‑ins with direct reports to support engagement, wellbeing, and performance.
    • Client Facility Walk‑round: Complete weekly joint walk‑rounds with the client, identifying and raising any faults or issues that require action.
    • Permit Management: Raise all required permits through CMO for airside works, stand closures, smoke head isolations, and baggage system isolations.
    • One‑to‑One Meetings: Hold regular one‑to‑one sessions with engineers to discuss wellbeing, performance, support needs, and areas for improvement.
    • Toolbox Talks: Deliver monthly face‑to‑face toolbox talks, ensuring full team attendance and issuing the completed register to Training and the Operations Manager.
    • Competency Management: Review team competencies and arrange any necessary training, renewals, or certifications.
    • Client Review Meetings: Participate in monthly client meetings to evaluate performance, highlight successes, and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Managers' Meetings: Attend monthly Managers' Meetings to remain aligned with the wider MITIE business strategy and operational updates.

     

    Person Specification

    ·       Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.

    ·       Qualified Engineering Background: Possession of relevant engineering qualifications and experience.

    ·       Strong Leadership and Team Management Skills: Proven track record of leading and managing teams effectively.

    ·       Proactive and Self-Motivated: Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

    ·       Excellent Communication Skills (Written & Oral): Exceptional ability to convey information clearly and effectively.

    ·       Good IT Skills with Understanding of CAFM: Proficient in IT with knowledge and experience in Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) systems.

    ·       Challenging and Inquisitive Mindset: Naturally curious with a desire to question the status quo and drive improvements.
