Mitie is looking for a qualified Electrical Engineer (FGas & Fire Alarms) to maintain essential infrastructure within an overseas Defence environment.

Working in a small specialist team, you will deliver planned and reactive maintenance, inspection, testing, fault finding and remedial work. Your contribution will help maintain safe, compliant and reliable facilities supporting UK Defence operations.

The role offers genuine responsibility, technical variety, and overseas experience beyond a conventional commercial maintenance position.

What you'll do

  • Deliver planned and reactive electrical maintenance within your competence and authorisation.
  • Carry out inspection, testing, fault finding and remedial work on low-voltage systems.
  • Support fire-alarm, emergency-lighting and associated building-services systems where competent and authorised.
  • Diagnose defects and escalate specialist, material or replacement requirements.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, test records, asset updates and compliance evidence.
  • Work from approved technical information and report asset risks or safety concerns.
  • Participate in the agreed urgent-response arrangement during deployed periods.
  • Support minor works and wider hard FM activity where competent.
  • Follow health and safety, permit, security and local operating controls.

What you'll bring

  • Recognised Level 3 electrical installation qualification or equivalent.
  • Current BS 7671 wiring regulations qualification.
  • Inspection and testing qualification or recognised equivalent.
  • F-Gas Category 1
  • Relevant post-qualification experience in commercial, industrial, infrastructure, secure estate or FM settings.
  • Strong fault finding, testing and remedial-work capability.
  • Accurate technical and compliance record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently within agreed authority.

Useful additional experience

  • Fire alarm or emergency lighting maintenance experience.
  • Facilities management or building services experience.
  • MOD, Defence, secure government, overseas or deployed environment experience.
  • IOSH or equivalent safety qualification.

Package

  • Free accommodation
  • Competitive base salary
  • Overseas allowance
  • Standby Allowance
  • Subsistence Allowance
  • Return travel to the UK
  • Pre-deployment preparation and ongoing welfare support.

Working Pattern

This role operates on a rotational basis, typically involving six weeks deployed overseas followed by six weeks in the UK on standby. While deployed, employees participate in a 24/7 operational support environment and may be required to respond to urgent operational requirements in accordance with local procedures and the agreed rota.
