Job title: Commissioning Engineer 

Based from: Various projects across Europe 

Reports to: 10/4 rotation

 

 

The Role 

The role of Commissioning Engineer is to manage the commissioning requirements of multiple projects from pre-commissioning stage through to final client handover including issuing certification, system training and the finalisation of the O&M Manuals.  

Commissioning Engineer will ensure the project is fully commissioned in line with specification, GBE design and customer expectations whilst maintaining strict adherence to statutory regulations. To provide a supporting role for the Project Manager in development of the commissioning process, documentation, and certification. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Test & Commission Life Safety and Security Systems 
  • Raise and submit the correct paperwork/certification for the project and issue in line with the project requirements 
  • Carry out periodic verification of installation standards 
  • Verify that installations are carried out to the project specification, company requirements and to the relevant standards/regulations 
  • Supervise or overview Sub-Contracting commissioning resources as necessary 
  • Produce regular commissioning status reports for the Projects Manager 
  • Provide technical assistance, support, guidance to engineers and sub-contractors 
  • Attend client and customer meetings to support the site team and as requested by the Project Manager 
  • Support to the Project Manager for Commissioning Strategy and associated production of the commissioning RAMS 
  • Identify issues and problems that will impact the successful commissioning of a project and assist the Project Manager in developing mitigation plans to minimise impact 
  • Ensure all test equipment is maintained in good working order and kept within calibration date at all times 
  • To commission any number of Fire Alarm, ASD, Voice Alarm, Disabled Refuge/Disabled Alarm, and Induction loop systems 
  • Confirming and verifying the installed Life Safety systems meet the Project Specifications, Project Fire Strategy, GBEC Design requirements and compliance with BS5839-1 (fire alarm), BS5839-8 (disabled refuge), BS5839-9 EVC (PA/VA) and BS8300 (disabled toilet alarms). This includes, but not limited to: cause and effect management, configuration development, point to point and field testing, panel networking, setting up head end graphic, witness testing and demonstration of C&E and 3rd party integration, and customer training 

 

AND/OR 

  • Commissioning any number of Security, Access Control, CCTV, Intercoms, Intruder Systems 
  • Confirming and verifying the installed Security systems meet the Project Specifications, GBEC Design requirements and compliance NACOSS and British Standard Requirements, this includes, but not limited to: IP device addressing, maintaining IP address schedules, setting and configuring of field devices, setting up headend equipment and graphics, patching and networking cables, ensuring compliance with fire alarm C&E, demonstration and witness testing systems, and customer training

Person Specification 

Essential 

  • Site commissioning experience in construction or engineering environment and experienced in commissioning Fire Detection, Voice Alarm, Disabled Systems AND/OR Access Control, CCTV, Intruder systems to the applicable British, European and NACOSS Standards and knowledge of all relevant BAFE/BRE codes of practice 
  • People management skills 
  • Clear understanding of construction methods and sequencing 
  • Experience of resource planning and programme management 
  • Clear understanding of construction Health and Safety requirements, including management of RAMS and sub-contractors 
  • Holds current CSCS/ECS Card 
  • Experienced in achieving SLA's, identifying gaps against standards, and implementing improvement solutions 
  • Demonstrable experience in achieving performance targets and driving performance through utilising metrics 
  • Solid experience in effectively organising and coordinating multiple priorities whilst achieving tight deadlines 
  • Highly resilient, responsive, and proactive, able to adapt to daily changes in workload and areas of focus 
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail 
  • Sound problem solving skills and analytical thinking with demonstrable experience of delivering actions plans to resolve issues and remedy disputes 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Minimum of 3 Years' Experience Commissioning Medium/Large Projects 

 

Desirable 

  • Educated to City and Guilds, NVQ3 or relevant industry experience 
  • SSSTS/SMSTS certified 
  • System Knowledge/Experience of the following:

Working Conditions 

The physical environment requires the employee to work in office and construction site locations around the UK and may involve travel to Europe from time to time. Construction site locations will involve both inside and outside working environments and the employee will frequently be required to use personal protective equipment. The employee may be required to work nights, weekends and on public holidays and may be required to spend time away in order to fulfil the job role.
