Rate of Pay: £12.60 per hour
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (2PM to 10PM)

In your new role as a Cleaner you will ensure equipment is kept clean, well maintained and in safe working order and meeting all agreed SLAs. Build your knowledge and understanding of the designated cleaning area, when the work needs to be carried out and all cleaning equipment and chemicals used on the premises while following Health and Safety requirements. You will need to undertake successfully all training required to deliver the cleaning role. You will be required to work within a team and can work under their own initiative. You will need to build positive and productive working relationships with all customers, delivery excellent customer service and seeking ways to continuously improve and exceed expectations.   

In order to be successful in this role you will need have the ability to communicate and read basic English, previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential and have a flexible approach to the role. You will need to be open, honest, self-driven and determined. You'll need to be reliable and hardworking with a professional attitude.

Main Duties

The main duties of the role involve adhering strictly to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines by using cleaning chemicals safely and correctly, including observing proper dilution rates and always wearing the provided PPE. The role requires a full working knowledge of all cleaning equipment, materials, and agents, which should only be used following proper training and direction from the Cleaning Team Leader. Any faulty equipment must be reported immediately, marked as such, and not used. Safety signage, such as wet floor signs, must be used appropriately at all times. Cleaning stores should be kept clean and tidy, and stock levels should be monitored, with low levels reported to the Team Leader to ensure timely reordering. Equipment must be maintained in a clean, safe, and functional condition and stored correctly when not in use.

Personal hygiene and appearance must meet statutory and company standards, with the proper uniform worn at all times. The job also involves ensuring that all general office waste—such as cans, paper, and plastic cups—is recycled daily using the correct waste streams, while making efforts to reduce unnecessary waste. High standards of operational hygiene must be upheld to minimize cross-contamination. The role requires full compliance with both statutory health and safety regulations and company policies, including promoting safe work habits and maintaining up-to-date training via GSK's “myLearning” platform.

Employees are expected to respond appropriately to client complaints or compliments and report any incidents, near misses, accidents, fire hazards, theft, loss, or damage. Maintaining a friendly, helpful attitude towards both Mitie colleagues and GSK clients/customers is essential. Any health and safety hazards or legislative infringements observed on site should be promptly reported to the Team Leader. The role also includes attending training sessions and meetings as needed to uphold contract standards, assisting with other tasks or providing cover in other areas upon management request, adapting to changing business needs, and completing any other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Person Specification

The person specification includes adherence to specialist GMP requirements, with a focus on maintaining the highest standard of cleanliness in designated areas, strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The individual must complete prompt and accurate reports and/or logbooks, ensuring that any issues are raised as soon as they arise. Regular checks of cleaning equipment are required, and all defects or faults must be reported immediately. Full compliance with GxP operating standards is essential, including proper cleaning procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), accurate paperwork, and appropriate conduct. While previous cleaning experience is preferable, it is not mandatory. The candidate should be a good team player with a flexible approach to the working environment and must be willing to provide cover in other areas when required. Additionally, a good level of English language proficiency is necessary to understand instructions, safety signage, SOPs, and health and safety-related training.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

All employees are expected to follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times. Any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment that could result in a failure of service delivery or pose a risk to health, safety, or the environment must be reported immediately. Employees must use all work equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) properly and in accordance with the training they have received. Additionally, any issues or training needs should be reported to the employee's line manager and/or through the appropriate divisional incident reporting system.

Information Security

Employees must ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities. They are expected to proactively identify and report any security risks to their manager. In addition, all actual and suspected security incidents must be reported promptly to ensure appropriate action is taken.
