Rate of pay: £12.71 per hour
Shift pattern: Variable Hours Over Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Location: Russells Hall Hospital, Pensnett Road, Dudley, West Midlands, England, DY12HQ

Role Overview

This role supports the delivery of a safe, high‑quality patient catering service within a hospital environment. You will assist with meal preparation and service, work closely with ward teams, and ensure patient needs are met with care, dignity, and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting patient meal services at ward level, including serving meals in correct portions and following dietary, allergen, and Trust procedures. The role involves using a patient meal‑ordering tablet to accurately record and manage orders, working in cold conditions within the RDU preparation kitchen, and assisting with meal preparation, plating, and distribution. You will also be expected to clean patient catering areas and equipment daily, in line with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Infection Control standards, and to communicate effectively with patients, ward staff, managers, and colleagues to ensure a smooth and compassionate service.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with a caring, patient‑focused approach who can work both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in patient or healthcare catering is desirable, but not essential, as training will be provided. You should be comfortable using digital devices such as tablets, able to work in cold environments, and have good numeracy, literacy, and communication skills. Reliability, organisation, adaptability, and good time management are important for this role.

Is This Role Right for You?

  • Do you enjoy working in a role that directly supports patient care and wellbeing?
  • Are you comfortable using tablets or digital systems to record information accurately?
  • Can you work in a busy hospital environment, including cold‑prep areas and ward settings?
  • Do you take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and hygiene?
  • Are you able to communicate clearly and kindly with patients and ward staff?
