Reporting to a Bid Director, the Bid Writer will work within a bid team, to produce high-quality, compelling and persuasive written content for bids, proposals, tenders and other work-winning submissions.

You will be responsible for understanding client requirements and engaging with subject matter experts to develop storyboards, content plans and written bid submissions that articulate the value and benefits of Mitie's client-focused solutions.

Working within a high-performing bid team, you will deliver bidding excellence to help secure opportunities across a broad range of projects and services. The primary focus of the role will be within Healthcare FM opportunities. There may be the requirement, depending on pipeline and demand to support bids within other Mitie public sector businesses including but not limited to Local Government and Education and Care & Custody.

This role requires close working and leadership of other bid writers, team members, and other key stakeholders to develop winning bids, tenders and proposals.

Main Duties

  • To provide high quality bid writing services to bids of various size, scale and complexity
  • To support the bid team in the creation of storyboards and to ensure that these are adhered to throughout the writing process
  • To work proactively with key stakeholders in the bid process (e.g., Sales, Business Development, Operations, Legal, Commercial, Pricing) to develop high-quality written proposals informed by an integrated approach across all bids
  • To proactively engage and manage relationships with key subject matter experts and other colleagues and specialists across the business, to drive engagement on bids, solution development and effective contributions, ensuring everyone is inputting to bid outcomes effectively
  • To gather and extract information from key technical experts and develop responses that deliver to the agreed storyboards, writing plans, tone and style
  • To create quality responses which are well-written, accurate, concise, and visually engaging and which effectively convey the required message, respond to customer requirements (including adherence to word counts, presentational requirements, and evaluation criteria requirements) and score well
  • To understand and capture subtleties and nuances within our solutions and present features, benefits added value and social value clearly and in line with the clients' marking criteri

What we are looking for


  • A working knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of bid writing best practice, bid processes and methodologies (essential)
  • Proven experience in a bid writing role, working as part of a successful bid team (essential)
  • A proven track record of successfully bidding to win contracts and opportunities (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience working with subject matter experts and other key stakeholders to gather the information required to craft high-quality, compelling proposals (essential)
  • An ability to work with senior stakeholders where required, to drive the design of client-focussed solutions that meet client requirements (essential)
  • Strong written English language skills (essential)
  • Excellent attention to detail (essential)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a deadline-driven environment (essential)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills (essential)
  • Excellent communication and skills (essential)
  • Proficient MS Office skills (essential)
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills (desirable)
  • Certified to APMP Foundation level or above (desirable).
  • Experience of bidding to both public and commercial sectors (desirable)
