Due to continued growth, we are recruiting an Operations Manager to lead the delivery of core contract services across the Falkland Islands. This is a high-profile leadership role, responsible for ensuring safe, compliant and effective service delivery across a diverse portfolio of technical, engineering and operational services.

What You'll Be Doing

As Operations Manager, you will provide integrated leadership across multiple service lines, ensuring the contract is delivered safely, compliantly and in line with operational requirements.
You will lead day-to-day delivery across:
  • Hard FM
  • Plant and Transport
  • Water Treatment and Services
  • Energy and Sustainability
  • Performance Management
  • Asset Management
You'll act as the senior operational interface with the client, end users and key stakeholders, ensuring services are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, statutory requirements and agreed performance standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary operational teams, setting clear standards, priorities and accountability.
  • Translate contractual requirements into practical service delivery plans, work programmes and resource strategies.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of skilled personnel, plant, vehicles, materials and specialist support are available.
  • Coordinate services to minimise disruption to operational activity and end users.
  • Maintain robust contingency and resilience plans appropriate to a remote island environment.

Hard FM and Technical Services

  • Oversee planned, reactive and operational maintenance across buildings, infrastructure, systems and equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are prioritised, completed and resolved within contractual timescales.
  • Monitor compliance performance, asset condition, maintenance backlogs and recurring defects.
  • Provide technical leadership across mechanical, electrical and building fabric disciplines.
  • Ensure works are correctly managed as Core Service, Inclusive Repair Threshold activity, Billable Works or contract change.

Plant, Fleet and Transport

  • Lead the management, operation and maintenance of vehicles, mobile plant and associated equipment.
  • Ensure assets are safe, compliant, inspected and maintained by authorised personnel.
  • Maintain accurate utilisation, maintenance, fuel and operational records.
  • Drive efficiency improvements across fleet usage, fuel consumption and asset availability.

Water Treatment and Utilities

  • Oversee water treatment, wastewater systems, swimming pools, firefighting water and distribution networks within contract scope.
  • Ensure all testing, monitoring and treatment activities meet legislative, MOD and contractual requirements.
  • Manage controls relating to water quality, Legionella, pollution prevention and service continuity.
  • Ensure utility assets remain resilient and capable of supporting operational requirements.

Energy and Sustainability

  • Promote energy efficiency, environmental performance and sustainable operational practices.
  • Support delivery of environmental objectives and reporting commitments.
  • Monitor resource consumption and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure plant and building management systems operate efficiently while supporting operational needs.

Performance and Asset Management

  • Lead operational performance management across KPIs, contractual deliverables and service standards.
  • Use CAFM and management information systems to identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver recovery plans where required and provide early warning of potential performance issues.
  • Maintain accurate asset records, maintenance histories and condition information.
  • Support long-term asset planning through risk, condition and lifecycle analysis.

Contract, Commercial and Governance

  • Maintain strong understanding of NEC4/DEFCON contractual arrangements and service requirements.
  • Support Early Warnings, change management, compensation events, service-failure management and Billable Works processes.
  • Provide timely and accurate operational reporting.
  • Build effective working relationships with client representatives and supply chain partners.
  • Control resources, expenditure and stock while protecting service performance and operational capability.

Safety, Quality and Assurance

  • Promote a positive safety culture across all operational activities.
  • Complete operational assurance and compliance audits.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out effectively.
  • Drive continuous improvement across safety, quality and service performance.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Significant management experience within Hard FM, engineering operations, utilities, infrastructure or a similarly technical environment.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across complex, operationally sensitive or geographically dispersed locations.
  • Strong understanding of planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance and asset management principles.
  • Experience of fleet, transport or plant management and utility or process services.
  • Demonstrable contract management experience, including performance management, change control and operational governance.
  • Experience managing KPIs, budgets, resources, subcontractors and service-improvement plans.
  • Strong leadership capability across health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.
  • Ability to interpret contractual and technical requirements and translate them into operational delivery.
  • Experience using CAFM, asset management or work management systems.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to satisfy security, medical, immigration and site-access requirements.

Desirable

  • Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction, Asset Management or a related discipline.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as IWFM, CIBSE, IMechE, IET or IAM.
  • NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Experience of NEC contracts or collaborative contract delivery models.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 55001 principles.
  • Experience working within MOD, defence, aviation, critical infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.
  • Previous experience of remote location, overseas or island operations.
