Campsfield IRC is the UK's first all-electric Immigration Removal Centre, providing custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activities. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring leaders to join our management team.

 

Job Overview

As a Detention Custody Manager, you will lead a team of officers to ensure the safety, dignity and wellbeing of residents in our care. This is a varied, fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will balance security and operational standards with a strong focus on care, welfare and resident engagement.

 

Main Duties

  • Lead, support and develop a team of custody officers to deliver high standards of care and professionalism.
  • Ensure residents are treated with dignity and respect, with a safe environment that promotes their welfare.
  • Oversee daily routines, staff deployment, and compliance with operational and emergency procedures.
  • Manage risk, resolve conflict, and respond to incidents in line with training and policy.
  • Monitor and report on resident welfare, escalating concerns around health and wellbeing where necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement, teamwork and accountability across your unit.

 

What We're Looking For

This role requires strong emotional intelligence, resilience, and effective leadership. You must have proven experience of managing people, inspiring teams to provide compassionate care, and working confidently with diverse populations. You must handle challenges calmly and professionally and be committed to making a positive impact. Ideally, you will have at least one year of experience in immigration operations.

 

Working Hours

  • 40hrs per week .  (Rolling shift pattern with a mixture of short and long days, including a set of night shifts)
  • The Centre is open 24hrs a day 365 days per year, and always requires staff to be fully flexible to meet full staffing .

Training (Initial Training Course)

Once you have passed our selection and security clearance process, you'll begin your Care and Custody career by undertaking our 6-week initial training course, for which you will be paid your full salary. You'll then continue your development journey over the following 12 months,with opportunities to undertake both personal and professional courses the possibilities are endless.

 

Specific Requirements 

  • Please note that all offers of employment are subject to security clearance and enhanced background checks:
  • You must be a British Citizen, EU citizen with settled status, or have an ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) from a Commonwealth country.
  • Bankruptcy history, CCJs, social media activity and criminal convictions will be checked.
  • You must have lived in the UK for the past three years with no significant footprint outside of the UK other than for normal holidays.
  • You will also be required to pass a basic Maths and English test, and a mobility or fitness test.

 

Due to the safety-critical nature of this role, we require that employees are not under the influence of any substance—including prescribed medication—that may impair their ability to perform their duties safely. This includes any THC-based prescriptions due to the lack of reliable evidence on safe levels of THC in the system.
