ROLE: Mechanical and Electrical Engineer

HOURS: As applicable
LOCATION: Heathrow Airport

At Mitie, our people are our greatest strength, and our promise is to create a place to work where you can thrive and be your best every day. We're looking for a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer at Heathrow Airport who will deliver excellent service standards, while meeting SLA agreements and adhering to maintenance schedules.

Role Responsibilities:

• Maintain and repair plumbing, ventilation (AHUs, extract/intake), heating and cooling systems (thermal wheels, FCUs), and water assets (booster sets, calorifiers, water heaters).
• Deliver high-quality service, respond to client queries, and report defects. Complete documentation accurately and on time, including inspection reports and remedial logs.
• Support supervisor with maintenance planning on critical assets. Perform manual tasks, including working at heights and in confined spaces. Participate in On-Call Rota and adhere to Health & Safety and Permit to Work procedures.
• Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules on various pump types (e.g. centrifugal, positive displacement, submersible, and gear pumps). Diagnose, remove, and install mechanical seals and gland packing to ensure zero-leakage operations. Perform precise laser or dial-indicator alignment on coupled pump-motor shafts to minimise vibration and extend equipment life. Conduct post-maintenance flow and pressure testing to verify pump operational efficiency against OEM specifications. Maintain a solid understanding of fluid mechanics, including pipework, valves, flow rates, and pressure regulation.
• Execute comprehensive preventative maintenance and calibration on de-icing systems, spray rigs, and chemical distribution pumps ahead of winter operations. Inspect, clean, and clear blockages in high-pressure spray nozzles, manifolds, and delivery lines to ensure uniform chemical application. Inspect and treat framework, tanks, and structural components for corrosion caused by harsh de-icing chemicals and winter road salts. Test and calibrate flow meters, pressure valves, and automated dosing controls to optimise fluid usage and system reliability. Provide reactive breakdown support during freezing weather to ensure de-icing equipment remains 100% operational.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role.

• Experience in Maintenance/Facilities Management and knowledge of Health & Safety and safe systems of work.
• Relevant qualifications, including completion of a recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent local qualification), or C&G Level 2/3 or equivalent.
• Valid full manual UK driving licence, IT literacy, strong communication skills and ability to use mobile devices effectively.
