Job Objectives and responsibilities 

Good understanding of standards and regulations relating to fire dampers and smoke extract systems covering BS9999 / BS9991 and HVAC knowledge

Maintain smoke extraction systems and extract fans to ensure they operate reliably and efficiently.

Strong technical knowledge around systems, fire alarms and interfaces including system operations

Perform timely maintenance and repairs to minimise system downtime and disruptions.

Provide technical expertise and support clients to ensure their needs are met and understanding of their duties under such requirements are clear.

Stay updated with industry advancements and implement best practices to improve system performance and maintenance processes.

 

Main Duties:

Perform routine maintenance and servicing of smoke extraction systems and extract fans.

Diagnose and repair faults in smoke extraction systems, Fire Dampers and extract fans.

Conduct inspections and testing to ensure systems are operating efficiently and safely in line with standards

Replace or repair components as necessary to maintain system functionality for safe operations

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance

Lead on smoke extract testing including with third parties such as fire alarm engineers and HVAC

Collaborate with other engineers and technicians to resolve complex issues across the group

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.

Provide technical support and guidance to clients regarding system operation and maintenance.

Stay updated with the latest industry developments and technologies.

Ensure reports are clear in terms of actions and findings following site visits

Escalate any potential issues or related risks following site visits

Work in line with company policies and procedures including H&S standards

 

Person Specification:

Industry-specific qualifications related to smoke extraction systems and HVAC systems.

Proven experience in servicing and maintaining smoke extraction systems, fire damper controls and extract fans.

Strong technical knowledge of smoke extraction systems and HVAC systems.

Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

Relevant certifications or qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering

Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to smoke extraction systems.
