Job objectives and responsibilities 

  • Working at HMP Millsike providing managing all waste produced. 
  • Reporting to Operations Director, Waste 
  • To operate, maintain and manage efficiently with the minimum supervision to specified standards as determined by HMPPS 
  • To manage day to day works, compliance, and sustainability linked tasks. 
  • The job holder shall participate in the functions and activities of the wider team as required  

 

 

Main duties 

  • Oversee waste management schemes across site 
  • Supervise the transportation of waste to ensure that it takes place efficiently without contaminating air, land or water sources 
  • Assist with the development, promotion and implementation of new waste management schemes 
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation in the transportation, handling and disposal of waste 
  • Collate statistics and compile reports on the full waste cycle within the site 
  • Monitor the quality and performance of waste services, including contract management of external providers 
  • Aim to meet and improve on waste reduction and recycling targets 
  • identify and target areas with fly tipping or black bag problems, working to find solutions to eliminate these 
  • Develop research projects and contribute to the activities of national groups concerned with waste disposal. 
  • Carry out all work to Mitie Energy and Technical Services environmental standards to minimise emissions and comply with COSHH requirements 
  • Comply with & enforce existing business risk management procedures to maintenance & project works. 
  • Participate as required in duty standby/call-out rosters and emergency response teams as required. ·  
  • Support the development and communication of best working practice. 
  • To understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time ·  
  • Troubleshoot areas of concern on site & offer effective solutions. 
  • Investigate and report in detail upon infrastructure short falls, problems, and incidents, recommending options for remedial actions. 
  • Effective use & maintenance of O&M Manuals and quality procedures.  
  • Available for scheduled & unplanned weekend working. 

 

Desirable Skill Sets from a Selection Below for Trade Bias 

The knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to the position are: 

  • Waste management background 
  • CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 3 Diploma for sustainable recycling activities or equivalent 
  • Ability to communicate at all levels both verbal and written, also note taking. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and self-motivated. 
  • Team worker and flexibility within the contracted hours. 
  • Computer literate 
  • Strong team player and a ‘can do' attitude. 
  • Intuitive and proactive nature. 
  • High moral standards with absolute integrity. 
  • Comply with company and statutory regulations relating to safe systems of work, health & safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and localised fire regulation procedure. 
  • Compliance and EHS Standards are met at all times 
  • To support and assist the FM Team Leaders in achieving the site objectives 

 

 

 

Health and Safety responsibilities 

  • Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times; 
  • Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment; 
  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received; 
  • Report any issues or training needs to your Line Manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system; 

 

 Information Security 

  • Ensure compliance with Mitie's information security procedures in all activities; 
  • Proactively identify and report security risks to your manager; 
  • Report actual and suspected security incidents;
