Job Objectives
• To manage and support the identification and timely delivery of all Sustainability, Decarbonisation and EMS goals and requirements under the Next Gen FM relationship with HMRC.
• To ensure that all required Sustainability and Decarbonisation reporting is delivered in a timely manner and that risks are identified and managed effectively.
• To be responsible for the development of a strategic and cost-effective approach to delivering the Sustainability and Decarbonisation Plan and all associated requirements for the Account, aligned wherever possible to both MITIE and HMRC Strategic Objectives.
• To engage with the Account leadership team, operational teams, and commercial/financial teams to ensure that contractual requirements and associated milestones are fully defined and delivered.
• To engage with HMRC clients to ensure that any required client information is available and up to date, and to agree reporting requirements with them, responding to requests in a timely manner.
• To support the delivery of the financial targets for the HMRC Account, identifying and seizing the Social Value, Net Zero or sustainability opportunities that can be pursued to add further value to relationship between Mitie and HMRC, and to grow Mitie.
• To be a key member of the Mitie leadership team for the HMRC Account
Key Responsibilities
• Provides the principal support and ownership of the development and delivery of the Sustainability Management Plan required under the contract.
• Develops and embeds the EMS particularly the environmental aspects and impacts assessment and legal compliance register with associated support, training and internal audits.
• Develops a decarbonisation strategy with HMRC leads that is aligned to their decarbonisation and Net Zero objectives and wider Greening Government Commitments.
• Develops a waste reduction strategy aligned to HMRC targets and objectives including Greening Government Commitments for waste reduction, increased recycling and removal of Consumer Single Use Plastics.
• Develops a water reduction strategy aligned with HMRC targets and objectives including Greening Government Commitments and the requirements of the legionella risk management plans.
• Engages with HMRC leads to assess the significance of any obligations and potential enhancement opportunities relating to public access, historic buildings and biodiversity across the HMRC estate.
• Develops a strategy for climate change adaptation and resilience with HMRC leads together with a protocol to identify and report any reactive maintenance works in response to extreme weather events.
• Develops the ‘wider' sustainability strategy to incorporate social aspects as well as the current environmental aspects.
• Establishes a monitoring and reporting regime covering all sustainability objectives together with benefits tracking on applicable sustainability projects / tasks.
• Develops case studies to use both internally and externally.
• Develops and articulate a strategic approach to identifying opportunities to deliver added value to the client, and to Mitie, including additional works.
• Engages with Account Director, Head of Workplace Operations, Head of Billable Works and Projects, Strategic Asset and Compliance Manager, Performance Improvement Manager and Senior Commercial Manager for the HMRC Account, agreeing sustainability related contractual requirements and ensuring they are met. Works with them to develop sustainability and decarbonisation offerings applicable to the estate and client.
• Undertakes the strategic lead on projects and liaison with key client stakeholders, including the identification of funding opportunities & budgets available for sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.
• Support the identification of improvement for inclusion in the Annual Improvement Plans for the Account and into other plans as required.
• Ensures that Account operations are fully compliant with relevant environmental legislation, policies and guidance.
• Works with the asset management and lifecycle replacement team to development an end-of-life strategy for leveraging opportunities to introduce low carbon heating instead of boiler replacement.
• Attends Senior Management Team meetings for the Account and becomes a key member of the team, to ensure sustainability is embedded operationally.
• Produces monthly, quarterly and annual client reports.
• Reviews and inputs into Client Sustainability and Net Zero Carbon Strategy reports and plans.
• Establishes and manages the progress towards key client sustainability and decarbonisation targets.
• Attends regular client meetings
• Identifies areas where the client can improve their environmental impact.
• Ensures the organisation and the client are compliant with ISO 14000 family of standards.
• Develops a sustainability and decarbonisation forward plan budget forecasts for identified and aspirational projects.
• Develops training programmes and workshops on sustainability practices for the Account team and the client.

Person Specification
Qualifications:
• Chartered Membership of appropriate professional body (IEMA preferred).
• Lead Auditor experience and associated qualification.
• IT literate in MS Office and systems management software.
• Degree level (or higher) qualification in Sustainability or related subject.
Experience:
• Proven track record and experience of sustainable development, decarbonisation and environmental management issues and their application (including strong levels of competence on energy, EMS and waste management and behaviour change) including an understanding of emerging government policy.
Skills and Personal Qualities:
• Strong team player willing to get involved with a wide variety of tasks and activities.
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to present confidently.
• Analytical approach to using data to enhance sustainability and environmental performance.
• Ability to undertake engagement programmes and present this to a variety of audiences'.

• Business partnering with key stakeholders (internal & external) with particular emphasis on building relationships.
