Mitie on Ascension Island are seeking a dynamic, robust Security Operative to be part of a small team providing aviation security services to military and civilian aircraft. 

Responsible to the Security Manager for ensuring a full range of protective and air transport security measures are provided in accordance with MAA (Military Aviation Authority) and CAA( Civil Aviation Authority) regulations.

Providing air transport and general security services, including responding to alarms, carrying out mandatory checks, maintaining security documentation and the issuing of Airside and Ascension Island Identification cards.

Ensuring the safeguarding of passengers, ground crew and the general public from unlawful interference with arriving and departing aircraft.

Main Duties

Carry out pre-flight security screening of departing passengers and aircrew.

Conduct screening of cabin and hold baggage using various x-ray equipment.

Prevent unlawful entry to aircraft and unauthorised carriage of prohibited items and dangerous air cargo, by the means of manual searching techniques and with the aid of security screening equipment.

Prevent breaches of aviation security and safety in the SRA (Security Restricted Area)

To carry out routine security patrols and checks of airfield facilities and assets on a daily basis, including weekends and bank holidays.

Respond to station recalls alarms and major incidents.

Work on an on call basis providing fist line contact for emergency duties.

What we are looking for

Have the ability to work independently with a flexible attitude, work under pressure, and cope with last minute changes to the flying programme, including flight delays.

Have the confidence to make decisions and report incidents to ensure the safety of aircraft.

Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, RAF, aircrew and customers at all levels.

Demonstrate a high level of customer service, maintaining a smart appearance, representing the company in a professional character whiles communicating with the customer and passengers.

Able to deal with awkward and argumentative passengers.

Must be prepared to undertake additional duties in support of contract delivery as and when required.

Full clean driving license. 

Additional Details

Mitie will pay a competitive salary, monthly site allowance and bonus. Hours of work are 47.5 per week, not ‘9 to 5' but arranged around Aircraft movements and will entail early, late and weekend working. The contract duration is 24 months with 80 days leave excluding weekends. There will be an entitlement to the Ascension Island Bank Holidays. Flights will be arranged to and from Ascension Island for agreed holiday periods. The position is unaccompanied, single accommodation on Travellers Hill, 3 meals at the Combined Mess, all corporate work wear and personal protective equipment included.  Must be capable of obtaining security clearance, evisa from the Ascension Government, be declared medically and dentally fit to work on Ascension Island.
