About the Role:
We are looking for a professional and compassionate Security Officer to join our team at The Princess Royal Hospital (part of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust). In this vital role, you'll help maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors—offering both protection and reassurance, especially in high-pressure situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Security:
- Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to maintain safety.
- Monitor CCTV and carry out control room duties.
- Respond to incidents, emergencies, and alarms in line with hospital protocols.
- Prevent unauthorised access, theft, and vandalism.
- Support & Interaction:
- Control visitor access and screen entries in accordance with hospital policies.
- Assist and guide patients and visitors in a helpful, professional manner.
- De-escalate tense situations, especially involving distressed individuals (training provided).
- Approach all interactions with empathy and respect.
- Reporting & Communication:
- Keep accurate records of incidents, patrols, and other activities.
- Write detailed incident reports and escalate issues when needed.
- Liaise with hospital staff, police, and other authorities as appropriate.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Valid SIA Door Supervisor License
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Calm under pressure, with good problem-solving skills
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Physically fit and quick to respond in emergencies
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends
Desirable:
- Flexibility to cover rota gaps
- Previous experience in healthcare or hospital security
