Multi-Skilled Technician (Mechanical Bias)
Location: Royal Victoria Hospital, Newcastle (with cover at Freeman Hospital)
Shift Pattern: 2 x 12-hour day shifts, 2 x 12-hour night shifts, followed by 4 days off

Position Overview
Join Mitie's dedicated maintenance team, delivering high-quality support across hospital facilities. This role is essential in ensuring our contractual obligations are met through effective and safe maintenance practices. While primarily based at the Royal Victoria Hospital, occasional cover at Freeman Hospital may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with contractual requirements.
- Maintain plant and equipment in accordance with O&M manuals, industry best practices, and relevant legislation.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), policies, and procedures.
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests within agreed timeframes, completing all necessary documentation.
- Work safely and professionally at all times, adhering to company policies and procedures.
- Operate effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment in plant rooms and service enclosures.
- Perform ad-hoc duties as required during your shift.
- Understand and contribute to the business continuity plan relevant to your area of work.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship experience, ideally within a healthcare environment.
- Proven experience in mechanical and/or multi-disciplinary maintenance, including DHW, LTHW, and ventilation systems.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
- Ability to work on own initiative and deliver high-quality service.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and customer awareness.
- Competent IT skills, including use of a PDA.
Desirable
- Electrical qualifications such as 18th Edition or City & Guilds 2391.
- Willingness to develop skills in other areas of building services.
- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
