Job objectives and responsibilities

Head of QHSE – Power and Grid

The Head of QHSE for Power and Grid plays a critical leadership role, overseeing all aspects of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) within the Power and Grid Business Unit. This role ensures operations are planned, delivered and executed safely and in compliance with Divisional and Sector QHSE objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Lead and support the Power and Grid QHSE team.

·         Ensure operational compliance and safe delivery across all activities.

·         Drive root cause analysis for incidents and non-conformances.

·         Provide QHSE input during tender processes.

·         Manage the EcoOnline incident management system, ensuring data accuracy.

·         Collaborate with the QHSE Director to develop and implement an assurance programme focussed on regulatory compliance, risk management and business expectations.

Key Stakeholders:

·         QHSE Director for Projects

·         Business Managing Directors

·         Senior leaders from Rock, Custom Solar, ESM and G2 businesses

 

Main duties

·         Support the QHSE Director to develop and execute the QHSE strategy.

·         Support all the Power and Grid businesses with integration and provide ongoing QHSE support thereafter.

·         Develop client relationships as relevant.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement in QHSE performance and provide data-driven recommendations.
  • Assess and support on QHSE resource allocation to optimise QHSE performance and culture.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis following incidents and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), working in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate closure of incidents and NCRs, together with developing and implementing an action plan for prevention and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and maintain health and safety systems, ensuring the accurate and timely entry of all relevant data.
  • Analyse data to identify trends and patterns, informing the implementation of corrective and preventative measures to improve QHSE performance and culture.,

·         Remain up to date with current legislation relevant to the sector.

·         Ensure QHSE is represented within the Operational Management Team.  

·         Drive performance management within the QHSE team.

·         Where relevant, liaison with Clients and Contractors on QHSE matters.

·         Support QHSE content of tender submissions.

  • Support on the review and maintenance of Group, Divisional and Business QHSE policies, procedures and controls.
  • Compile QHSE performance management reports.
  • Implement and manage the internal audit programme to drive continual improvement and compliance with

required standards, Business, Group, and Divisional requirements.

  • Establish and maintain QHSE Committees and employee engagement.
  • Drive the QHSE agenda with the Operational Management Team.

·         Promote and maintain close working relationships with the Managing Director and QHSE Director wider QHSE in order to influence, develop and implement the Divisional and Sector strategy.

·         Any other reasonable “ad hoc” duties as required by the needs of the business.

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • CMIOSH
  • Experience in a senior QHSE position with a proven track record of delivery
  • CDM knowledge and experience
  • Principal Designer and Principal Contractor knowledge and experience.

·         Specific experience delivering QHSE within the construction sector

  • ISO or internal audit knowledge and experience

·         Experience of multi-site, multi-discipline organisations

·         Flexible approach to work patterns

·         Full UK driving licence

·         Experience of managing people directly.
