Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative 
Salary: from £23,806 to £26,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time 
Hours: 37 hours per week (Standard working hours are 7:30 - 3:30 from Monday to Friday, but flexible working is available)
Location: MoD Corsham, Building 406, Corsham, Wiltshire, England, SN13 9ET

Based at MOD Corsham in Wiltshire, Mitie are looking for a full time Grounds Maintenance Operative to carry out general grounds maintenance tasks and reactive jobs.

You will work in a small, dedicated team, driven to deliver exceptional service every day to our clients. You will need to be reliable, adaptable, professional, & able to prioritise workloads.  Safe working and adherence to risk assessments is absolutely critical.

Standard working hours are 7:30 – 3:30 M-F, but flexible working is available.

Starting salary is Real Living Wage, with a progression pathway to a maximum of £31K. Performance-based raises are given annually.  In addition you can expect to earn  £2,300 pa from overtime and on-call.

Requirements

• Proof of right to work in the UK (UK passport or residence permit)
• Full UK driver's licence
• MOD security clearance (This will be paid for by Mitie. Spent criminal convictions are not necessarily a barrier to obtaining security clearance.)
• Willingness to work out-of-doors in all weather
• A responsible mindset and safe approach to work

Primary Responsibilities:

• Grass cutting, strimming, leaf blowing/collection
• General gardening, including weeding, watering, and mulching
• Winter road maintenance, including gritting and snow clearance
• Sports pitch marking and maintenance
• Hedge cutting
• On call as required for winter road clearance
• Day-to-day maintenance (cleaning, sharpening, tightening, inspecting) of hand and power tools, including mowers, strimmers, gritters, vehicles, and others
• Special projects and reactive work involving hard landscaping, trees, etc.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Mechanical knowledge and experience of maintaining grounds equipment
• Basic horticultural knowledge, including plant ID and care
• Ability to work with minimal supervision to a high standard

Bonus points if you have:

• Chainsaw maintenance and operator's certificate
• Experience of turf maintenance
• Pesticide Spraying Qualifications: PA1 safe handling & application of pesticides, PA6 hand-held applicators on land, and/or PA2 Boom Sprayer.
