Electrical Major Projects Manager - North West (83791)

Main Purpose of Role

To manage a multifunctional team of directly and indirectly employed staff, made up of project managers, site managers, commercial, planning personnel and site teams; focused on and responsible for constructing electrical infrastructure projects from LV through to 132KV. The position holder will be responsible for communicating with clients, the DNO, TNO, manufacturers, suppliers and the construction team to ensure that the construction process runs smoothly and meets the relevant standards applicable.

The position holder will be required to contribute to business development efforts and support the tendering and construction team as required. Work closely with the Design team to develop and deliver a portfolio projects' of circa £20m/annum in value. Work to develop new and innovative ways of delivering these services to improve safety, quality, project margins, and delivery timescales.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Managing a team of directly employed and indirectly employed operational, construction and technical specialists.
  2. Overall responsibility for the successful installation and commissioning of electrical equipment/systems up to and including 132kV, ensuring that agreed project milestones m in accordance with budget.
  3. Ensuring electrical operations are conducted to ESM's and third-party safety rules when applicable.
  4. Ensure the required tools and equipment are available to support operational and construction activities.
  5. Timely reporting/communication to ‘the business on progress, costs and risks as they evolve.
  6. Responsible for input to project programmes and monitoring of same throughout construction.
  7. Creation and sign off, of teams/third party construction scope and/or programmes, and subsequent monitoring and control; to ensure works are delivered, to agreed timescales and cost, safely.
  8. Monitoring, control, and communication of work outside of scope that would be a chargeable variation.
  9. Producing monthly reports detailing progress on each scheme.
  10. Work with Business Development team to assist with estimates and tenders.
  11. Managing competence, training, authorisation and auditing of operational and construction resource.
  12. Working with ‘Network Operators/Owners (IDNOs, DNOs, TNOs and Private Network

operator/owners) to determine and agree responsibilities and scope of works.

  1. Ensuring contestable works are constructed in accordance with the relevant DNO and/or TNO policies and standards, including the witness of commissioning activities by the DNO and/or TNO where required. Ensure the continued growth of the Major Projects business in conjunction with the company business plan through strong collaboration with the business development commercial directors and their respective teams.
  2. Demonstrate effective individual and collective SHE leadership and promote enthusiastic SHE culture. Manage Safety through early development incorporating life cycle designs that minimise risk to personnel.

 

Job Context/ Key Challenges

The postholder will be a Senior Project Manager with overall responsibility for the delivery of a portfolio of major projects.

Responsible for ensuring safety, business, commercial, and operational objectives and KPI's are met through clear communications and leadership.

Dimensions:

Safety: Lead by example on the construction and operational aspects of safety during all aspects of electrical construction/installation activities.

Customer service: Delivering construction/installation activities to internal and external clients in accordance with budget, project timeline and system requirements.

People: managing a team of circa. 6 direct employees and construction providers. Liaison with internal and external stakeholders to include customers, contractors' colleagues and presenting to clients of all levels.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The person required will be highly mobile, motivated, knowledgeable with demonstrable practical knowledge of electrical network operational practices and the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment and commercially astute. With a proven track record of supporting teams in a demanding customer-focused operational environment. The ability to work under pressure and achieve challenging deadlines is essential. Demonstrable ability to build good working relationships both within ESM Power and with external clients.

 

Essential Qualifications, Skills/Criteria:

  • Minimum Level 4 (HNC) Electrical Engineering Qualification. Degree level qualification desirable.
  • Demonstrable high-level knowledge of electrical networks standards, policies and procedures associated with the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment up to 132kv.
  • Management qualification and/or demonstrable practical knowledge of managing a team of minimum of 5 people is desirable·
  • Good written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Pro-active, self-starter, enthusiastic, flexible and able to motivate staff.
  • Can manage multiple stakeholder relationships.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word and Excel
